Paul Noritaka Tange

Yoshihiko-Ueda_lateral_low.jpgI spent more than half of my school years abroad and have been working in Japan and overseas for almost 25 years. My experience abroad has helped me realize the importance of Japanese culture - not that it is better or more important than other cultures, but that it is beautiful and has much to offer to the world. I believe it is important to encourage our younger generations to appreciate Japan's culture and to introduce other countries to its beauty. I was very happy to hear that the people of Ishikawa are working toward this end. "Real" international exchange is not about politics and economics, but about culture and traditional arts, or what appeals to the emotions. I am grateful to the people of Ishikawa who have taken on this challenge to reveal Japan's gifts to the world, and I am pleased to be able to contribute, albeit in a small way.
